ABOUT THE ARTIST & AUTHOR

I paint and write to tell stories: stories that move me, inspire me, burden me, torment me and/or elevate me. I also create to share, commiserate, love, cry out, and try to make all that expression be at the very least stirring to whoever needs to hear their own echo of what I say. And sometimes, I paint and write because I feel like a window to something of which I am part but I do not possess.

I aim to provide company, insight, and comfort to those who are drawn to it. I wish to give people solidarity, validation, and a mirror to show them their shadow/pain and their magnificence, as needed.

I normally use bright colors, surreal settings, and a more naïve style, perhaps to maintain a personal honesty felt much more strongly and freely during childhood, in regards to the feelings, stories, and experiences I illustrate. In my writing, I tend to include an Afro-Latina, female protagonist, as it is the living experience I am most familiar with and do like immersing myself vicariously into the adventures I dream up. I’m working on becoming a graphic novelist, so my writing is once again in progress. More ASAP!

As an artist, I’ve been influenced heavily by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francesco Clemente, Francis Bacon, Alphonse Mucha, Kara Walker, Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, Japanese ukiyo-e and manga, but most of all my dreams, lucid or otherwise. For my fantasy fiction and literary fiction writing, my idols are Alice Walker, Astrid Lindgren, Peter S. Beagle, Stephen King, Octavia Butler, and J.R.R Tolkien.

I write and paint for people of all ages who feel things very deeply and, maybe deep down, believe there is a bit or a lot of magic in our day to day. Because there absolutely f*ing is.

Anyway. Thank you for visiting! Keep up with my shenanigans on Instagram (coming soon, as I’m currently on a bit of a break. Life is bonkers, and low-key so am I.)
