Joy I
Watercolor, gouache, colored pencil on paper, 2025 (18 x 24 inches.)
Oh, there’s a paintbrush in the corner of this photo. … … ART!
I felt nostalgic for the days when I depicted positive emotional states and feminine healing in golden voids. I was also entranced by a fellow artist’s botanical art and hungry for the presence of red anemone flowers in my life. What feeling did I want to have bloom among these flowers and in this golden space within a golden timelessness? Joy. Who did I wish joy upon the most in these divisive, dare I say persecutory and ominous times? Afro-Latinas, Black women, people of color. Everyone good and kind of any color, yes, always, but in that very moment I was sketching and painting, it was us especially.
Lo and behold, this is me manifesting.
